According to the report, the Railways is going to take these steps to facilitate the common citizens to travel in AC coaches at low fares.
According to an English newspaper, this work is being done in Kapurthala Rail Coach Factory. In the first phase, 230 such coaches are being made, it can cost anywhere between Rs 2.8 to 3 crores to make each coach. A separate design is being prepared for them. Railways expect the economic AC 3-tier to earn well. Because more and more people will travel in it. Apart from this, it is also planned to convert unreserved general class coaches into 100-seat AC coaches.
As per the report, 3-tier non AC sleeper class and non reserved general class coaches will be made AC coaches. A senior official said that it would be an affordable ‘AC 3-tier class’. He also said that the upgrade will be named ‘AC 3-tier Tourist Class’. On the other hand, the official has told that the fare will be placed between AC 3-tier class and non-AC sleeper class fare.
It is said that between 2004 and 2009, it was planned to produce economical AC 3-tier class coaches. After which the Garib Rath Express trains were launched. Passengers had said trouble during the journey. Along with this, other problems also started happening. Due to this, the Railways took a big step, its production was stopped.
