In 1909, an American girl Sonora Smart Dodd proposed an idea to honor the father. Many local clergy accepted the idea, and on June 19, 1910, the first Father’s Day ceremony was held by Sonora Smart Dodd in Spokane, Washington. After completing his education in 1930, Dodd started promoting the festival at the national level. This helped him trade groups tie makers, tobacco pipes and other traditional gifts for fathers.

In 1924, US President Calvin Collie gave his consent on Father’s Day. Then in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson made an official announcement to celebrate Father’s Day on the third Sunday of June. In 1972, Father’s Day was declared a permanent holiday in the United States. At present, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June all over the world.
